RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

(there is a chain link fence separating our property and I am putting it far enough back so I can get behind it and paint it (that is still an option) Thanks again..
Um, judging by the "problems" your neighbor's wife seems to have.... "paranoid schizophrenia" comes to mind...if you *really* want to create trouble..paint some staring eyes on that fence....LOL!!!!!
Deb
This is very funny!!!!!

RE: Is antenna booster really needed for DTV on batwing antenna?

The actual amplifier is inside the antenna housing. The wall plate is the power supply that sends voltage up the coax to power the amplifier inside the antenna.
Without power to the head, the circuitry will not pass a signal.
BTw, the power draw for the power supply is very little.

RE: Securing a Yamaha EF2400iS Genny

I painted mine to resemble an accordian and no one has come near it! :B
Seriously, I replaced the bolts with allen-head bolts. Still removeable but thieves are less likely to have a metric allen wrench with them.

RE: portable waste tanks

I am thinking of purchasing one of these portable waste tanks for use when dry camping so that I don't have to move the motor home to dump waste. there are 2 major brands out there, Thetford and Tote-Alongs by Barker. I would appreciate feed back on pros and cons of each from those who use these expensive little tanks.
I dont remember for positive but I think the Thetford is the BLUE one. The other is now sold by CW and from what Ive read is YOU DONT WANT IT! Something about the inside of the tank is "rasied up" ( ibn sort of a lip) around the drain port and it always hold a certain amount of the ( bad stuff)inside....VERY difficult to get cleaned out inside.
If you do a search down in "gen RV" I think it is...cant really remember...the thread(s) should pop up for you to read
Barker is the blue one, Thetford is the grey one.
my recomendation is the Barker.

RE: Troubleshooting 3-way fridge

Camera Man,
I found that parts for my Dometic refer in my PUP are obsolete so I went looking for a replacement to have on hand after I was able to modify a burner from another model to work in my refer for now.
I placed a "Wanted" ad on craigslist and I found a 5-year old three way Dometic that the seller will take $100.00 for. We have plans to meet at the end of the month for the purchase.
I suggest that you search eBay as well as craigslist for a used refer.
New ones for a PUP start at around $550.00 but a used one for $100.00 sounded much better to me.
Even if you found one out of your area, if the price is right, it may pay to have it shipped.
There are currently three PUP sized refers on eBay.

RE: Troubleshooting 3-way fridge

Thanks Mike. I agree with the 50% improper installation figure.
I can't begin to tell you how many RV refers I have found that were installed improperly from the factory. Improper venting, insulation in the wrong place, incorrect vent positions...........
My current RM2191 in my pup is working very well on gas or 12-volts since I replaced the defective burner. again, the gas has a thermostat and the 12-volts doesn't but I plan to add a thermostat to the 12-volt side should I need to use that if the gas goes out again.

RE: buying an oxygen saturation machine

I have purchased two used pulse-oximeters from eBay and have had no trouble.
On a used machine, just expect to replace the battery if the unit has this feature. The price was around $100.00 for the Nellco bed-side units.
There are spot-check units available that are self-contained and clip on the finger but these aren't designed for continued monitoring.
We now have three Nellcor bed-side units. One for the RV, one for the wheelchair van and one for home.
Because our doctor wrote us a prescription for one, insurance covered the cost of a new machine.

RE: What's with Directv?

FCC doesn't regulate the mirroring of an additional receiver.
I have the receiver in my RV registered as one for my second bedroom in the house. The cost is $5.00/month and I don't turn it on and off.
Haven't had issues for the 6 years I have had Direct TV.

RE: Troubleshooting 3-way fridge

These small PUP fridges are rather different animals.
They don't have compressors - they use a burner (propane) or heater (12v and 120v) to impart energy to the refrigerant (amonia)
They (at least most PUP ones) don't have thermistats. The only control is a heater control - gas valve in propane, electrical setting in 120V, none in 12 volts.
They are pretty slow to cool down, but quick to warm up if you load them with warm beer (or other favorite beverage.)
Best, as stated above to pre-cool, either on propane or 120V the night before. Also good to load with pre-cooled goodies.
12V is pretty much not worth the trouble and dead batteries it can cause. Should only be used when connected to TV and driving, but too small of 12V wiring (often encountered) can fail to deliver enought juice. Result = run down PUP battery on arrival.
Since no thermostat, pretty constant cooling (translation - not much) but not much control. Expect about 20 degrees below outside temp. after cooled down, a little better if you have a condenser fan mod installed. If getting good cooling during day and expect night time temp. to drop to below 50, lettuce will freeze if you don't turn it down for the night. Don't forget to turn it up during the day - lettuce will wilt.
Most efficient is propane, then 120V, and then - aw you don't wanna mess with 12V.
For refrigeration when camping, we use Coleman, Igloo, and Dometic, in that order.
WEll, all of the refers that were in my pups (have bought and sold about 20 and owned 5 myself) have had at least one energy source controled by a thermostst.
Every one I have had that operated on 110-volts/propane had a themostat on at least one source but some of these had no thermostat on the 12-volt side.
The statement about realizing only a 20 degree difference from ambient temperature is not accurate.
A properly operating and installed absorbsion refrigerator will cool to proper operating temps (40 degrees for refer, 0-degrees for freezer) even if outside temps are running above 90 degrees.
BTW, the energy source that doesn't use a thermostst will constantly be in the cooling mode and will end-up freezing everything.
This past June I was in Bishop, outside temps were about 90 degrees and the gas side of my refer went out. I switched over to the 12-volt source (had hook-ups) that has no thermostst and the entire refer froze within hours.

RE: Suburban heater problem

There is no thermocouple in a DSI furnace nor a pilot light.
The safety device is called a flame sensor and it's job is to sense the main burner flame.
If the furnace is completing three ignition tries, then most likely there is no ignition. This can be caused by a number of issues from a clogged orifice to a weak spark to a defective board or flame sensor.
Time for a qualified tech to have a look. It gets expensive changing out parts until the problem is resolved.
FYI..........Never clean a flame sensor with sand paper. Use emery cloth only. Sand paper will leave silica behind and when the flame heats this residue, it turns to glass which then becomes an insulator on the flame sensor and will not sense the flame.

RE: Campground Fistfight in OK

"Now this is three threads on campground violence and none of them have anything to do with camping."
Campground violence. Nothing to do with camping? Geeze! Must be a Canadian thing!!!
Skrams, I think the message in this thread and the others is that sometimes we may think that we are all safe and cozy, isolated from the problems of the world while camping, when in fact the very opposite is the case. Crime knows no boundaries and I appreciate these helpful warnings.

There already is a thread on this item of non-news. What does this have to do with camping / RV'ing? Nothing.
Are you serious? :R
Has everything to do with camping.
I guess some just need to respond to threads even though the response adds nothing.

RE: furnice

Be careful with these old gravity-type furnaces. They were removed from the market due to the higher heat (no fan to provide air-flow over the exchanger)cracking the heat exchangers which then allowed carbon monoxide into the living area.

RE: Why???

Why do 7-Eleven store have locks on the doors if they are open 24 hours a day?
I have an answering machine for my car phone. The greeting says: "I'm sorry I can't come to the phone now, I'm home"!
I was stopped by the police while driving the other day. He asked why I wasn't wearing eye glasses since my license required me to wear them.
I told him I had a prescription windshield. (I should be out tomorrow)

RE: RV Person Lift

javaseuf, I'm glad that you posted the Star Track site. I had researched that company's products four years ago and I couldn't remember the name. They have a lot of more products now than they did back then. As I recall from my research back then, I would have to have taken my coach to Indiana for them to install something where Lecta Aid uses local installers (I visited an top installer in Long Beach, California).
Who was the dealer in Long Beach? We bought our Chrysler van handicap conversion from Mac's Lift Gate, a great dealer in Long Beach.

RE: Manuals

Kind'a not related but true.
I once worked for a MH manufacturer and 99% of the workforce was very talented, hispanic craftsmen that worked the assembly line.
I had a customer call me and his question was "Do you guys have any manuals available".
My answer was "We have quite a few Manuals as well as some Joses, Jesuses and Juans". :B
Me and the lead man, Jose, had a good laugh. I miss all of these guys I worked with. A great bunch of people!
